A depleted TJs U12 A team, with just 2 subs, headed to Sevenoaks on a sunny but chilly March morning for their final league match of the season.
With some formation changes, the team started strongly, driving forward to enable James Green to score our first try in the 4th minute. Two minutes later, after some good passing, Bertie galloped home on 6 minutes to put us 10-0 up.
Sevenoaks fought back, passing the ball out to their strong wingers and in the 10th minute they put the ball over our line, to let us know they weren’t there for the taking.
TJs’ response was positive and with a few positional changes, and some great combinations of strong forward play and some great passing out to the wings, we increased our lead through Will Coombes and Ned, in the 17th minute and on the stroke of half-time respectively, to go into the break three tries ahead.
Sevenoaks started the second half well, scoring in the 24th minute and after a few more good attacks by the home side, TJs grabbed the game by the scruff of its neck, with some great play across the park, with most of the team involved in most attacks, which culminated in back-to-back tries for Sacha in the 30th and 32nd minutes, followed closely by Oakley’s try in the 33rd minute. Bertie’s strong running led to our 8th try in the 39th minute, which put the game to bed, at 10-40, in line with league scoring guidelines, however the referee continued the match, which enabled Will Coombes to score his 2nd of the match, to seal a comprehensive win for TJs.
It was a great example of team player with every player contributing on the warmest morning we’ve played since earlier in the season, and to top off the morning, the boys were given some words of encouragement from former Sevenoaks player and Italy U19s upcoming star, Luca Esposito, who praised their strong teamwork.
