2s lay down a marker in table topping C2K showdown

A heavyweight clash at the summit saw unbeaten TJ’s 2XV welcome equally flawless Westcombe Park 2XV, with both sides knowing that something had to give.

What followed was a performance of authority, power, and control as TJ’s delivered a ruthless 44–14 victory built on a scrum that bordered on the brutal.

The opening 20 minutes were cagey, both teams feeling each other out in true top-of-the-table fashion. But, once Luke Beaumont split the uprights with a long-range penalty to break the deadlock, the momentum swung firmly in TJ’s favour and it never truly returned.

From there, TJ’s began to turn the screw. A penalty kicked to the corner led to a textbook driving maul, rumbling forward with intent before Max Wheeler emerged triumphant at the back. Beaumont added the extras, and the home side were up and running.

Relentless forward carries followed, the pack hammering away until the defensive wall finally cracked. Julien Brosse powered through the line, and once again Beaumont was flawless from the tee.

Just before the break, the TJ’s scrum struck again, forcing another penalty which Beaumont calmly converted.
20–0 at half-time, and TJ’s were in total command.

If the first half was dominant, the second was downright destructive. The scrum became a weapon of mass disruption, winning penalty after penalty and pinning Westcombe Park deep in their own territory. Though points didn’t immediately follow, the pressure was relentless.

The breakthrough came after a sharp break from Alex Gribbon, slick offloading creating a clear overlap before a desperate slap down by the last defender. The referee had no hesitation, penalty try, and a yellow card for Westcombe Park.

To their credit, WP responded with sustained pressure of their own and eventually forced their way over for a converted try. But TJ’s never panicked. A calm decision to take the points saw Beaumont extend the lead to 30–7.

As scrum penalties continued to mount, Westcombe Park were reduced again after another yellow.
TJ’s immediately capitalised. Fraser Bruce thundered over the line, seemingly carrying half the pack with him, before Beaumont again converted..

There was still time for one final flourish.
Another scrum penalty, another kick to the corner, and another irresistible maul. Max Wheeler claimed his second of the afternoon from the back, capping a monumental performance. Beaumont converted to stretch the lead further.

Westcombe Park grabbed a late consolation score with a converted try, but it did little to mask a day thoroughly owned by TJ’s.

Full Time: TJ’s 2XV 44 – 14 Westcombe Park 2XV

Man of the Match: Max Wheeler, dominant at the scrum and two tries to boot.

Next up: Maidstone away as TJ’s look to finish the first half of the season in style.
A statement made. A pack feared. And TJ’s march on at the top 6 points clear.
