No Luck in 7 Up for Tjs

Adam Hookway

Tjs recorded their 7th win out of 7 rounds with a powerful and impressive performance against old rivals Rams to stay top of National 1

Unbeaten Tjs were back at The Slade to tackle Rams on Saturday, a side that had always been a bit of a bogey club for Tjs but not any more as they ran in seven tries, all converted by Connor Lloyd to record their biggest margin of victory to date this season.
Six narrow wins in each of the first six rounds all led to Round 7 as Tjs eyed up Rams and a weekend off after this one. But it was Rams who started the brighter after Tjs tried to run it out of their own 22 only to turn it over and spend the first 10 minutes defending their line. Eventually Rams broke through to take the lead.
It didn't last long as Tjs 1flooded downfield from the restart and the pressure told almost immediately as Jack Walsh was sent over on the right. A few minutes later a poor clearance from Rams allowed Tommy Mannix to catch and make a hole. His offload found support who in turn found Connor Lloyd on the angle to dive over and score to make it 14-7
There was no stopping Tjs from here as Matthew Engelbrecht scored his first and a few minutes later Walsh forced his way over for his second and the try bonus point. Although Rams managed a converted try of their own to make it 28-14 Steffan James stepped up to chip over the Rams defence from 30m out and as the ball bounced on the Rams tryline it bounced sweetly backwards into his arms as the Rams full back headed in the opposite direction. Half time up and Tjs led 35-14
The second half started brightly for Tjs as Rams received a yellow card and Engelbrecht scored his second from close range. At 42-14 Tjs had to focus on defence for long periods but time and again Rams failed to convert attacking positions into points as twice they were held up over the Tjs line from which Tjs could clear.
Vinnie Everitt was yellow carded on the hour but on his return he shrugged off several Rams defenders near their line to crash over for Tjs final score. Rams had time for one last try and Tjs squeezed in a second Yellow card for Freddie Cole but the game was up for Rams and Tjs had saved one of their best performances for this game
Tjs are joint top of National 1 with Plymouth Albion and after a Saturday off they head to Birmingham Moseley on the 31st October.
