An end of season spectacle of rugby this game was not as Dorking had it pretty much all their own way in the second half but TJs can perhaps be excused after claiming the N2E divisional title a couple of weeks before.
A bumper crowd were on parade as the top two in the Division locked horns and early signs were that it was going to be a combative match as both sides over-stepped the line in the opening quarter with Dorking seeing red and TJs a yellow.
Neither side though could find time and space to dominate the ball or territory and whilst TJs opened the scoring with a Duncan Tout try and Sam Evans conversion after 20 minutes Dorking hit back with a converted try of their own from the restart.
Another card for Dorking, a yellow, after 25 minutes failed to ignite TJs in attack and the half ground to the end with the sides sharing the spoils at 7 points each.
Dorking switched round to play with the slope and they were immediately on the offensive and scoring 5 tries in quick succession in the third quarter to pull clear of TJs at 38-7 after the hour mark. TJs rallied with tries from Connor Lloyd and a second from Duncan Tout but the game was up.
TJs were awarded the champion’s trophy and medals after the game to bring the curtain down a long and successful season. Just 4 losses against 22 wins saw them finish 6 points clear of second placed Dorking. The result sees them promoted to National 1 for next season and Level 3 where they can look forward to return trips to the likes of Sale, Plymouth and Leeds with newbies including Rotherham Titans and Sedgley Park
The squad will have several weeks off to recover from their title-winning efforts before preparing for another go at National 1.
