TJs fight back to overhaul Guernsey in a thriller at The Slade

Top of the table TJs took on Guernsey Raiders in the N2E early kick off and left it late to seal the win and to keep their undefeated and maximum points record intact after just 5 games.
Perfect conditions at The Slade again and a large TJ crowd enjoyed a game full of power and pace with the visitors enjoying the majority of the ball and territory but failing to put the game beyond the reach of TJs.
Guernsey started strongly and were a penalty in front from the first minute before adding a con verted try five minutes later and they were 0-10 up and TJs had seen very little of the ball. When Guernsey added a second converted try a few minutes later the home crowd were in shock as TJs were struggling to get a foothold in the game.
However they finally made some space in the backs and a clever kick ahead bounced nicely into Duncan Tout's hands and he scampered down the left and under the sticks to score and Tom White converted to drag TJs back to a 7-17 scoreline.
Guernsey though added another penalty to edge to 7-20 before TJs next attacking effort saw them attack a Guernsey defensive lineout and the ball popped into the grateful arms of Truman Sullivan to fall over the line and again White converted. From the restart TJs failed to control the ball and Guernsey slotted another penalty.
Guernsey continued to enjoy the bulk of the territory but when TJs did break out they were finding success and after an attacking lineout was thwarted illegally Connor Lloyd took a quick tap to scamper in under the sticks and White added the extras. A few minutes later White added a penalty to close to 24-27 and on the cusp of half time Will Holling saw yellow to reduce TJs to 14 men.
More of the same from Guernsey in the second half as they continued to have much of the ball and their powerful runners made life difficult for the TJ defence. On 44 minutes they added another penalty and on 54 minutes a further converted try and TJs were struggling to find any space to create at 24-37.
But Guernsey failed to put the game beyond TJs reach and as the game edged into the final 10 minutes TJs found room from an attacking lineout to feed the flying Curtis Barnes to scythe through on an angle to score. White's conversion made it 31-37 and the noise levels increased as the home supporters tried to encourage a final push from TJs.
And so it came as Guernsey became edgy in defence and TJs went close from a couple of attacking lineouts but it was a move wide right as the clock ticked on that found Duncan Tout to out flank the desperate defenders to score in the corner and make it 36-37.
So it all came down to a final kick from wide on the TJ right. Up stepped Tom White to slot the conversion with ease and TJs had snatched victory and maximum points for the fifth game in a row. TJs now lead N2E by 3 points and head to Havant for Round 6 next Saturday and a 3pm KO
