Tjs Stumble in Final Away game of Season

Tjs Stumble in Final Away game of Season

Adam Hookway20 Apr - 06:17

A loss in National 1 but the 2s and TJ Ladies claim league titles; Tjs remember Dan Gecse; and intrepid walkers finish on a high

It was an exciting and emotional weekend for Tjs and plenty to enjoy as part of the Tj community.
The 1st XV were off on their final travels of the N1 season with a trip to fellow mid-table occupiers, Bishop's Stortford. The game followed a fairly familiar pattern with the home side eventually running out 37-24 winners after Tjs had got back to within catching distance.
First half tries from Connor Lloyd, Vinnie Everitt and Tom Mannix kept Tjs in the hunt and a fine sprint to the line by Duncan Tout, after 200 games for Tjs, earned a try bonus point it wasn't enough to earn an away win.
Elsewhere the N1 title will go down to the wire as Rotherham saw off Sedgley Park 7-68 to remain 4 points clear of Blackheath who won 19-43 at Leeds Tykes. Third placed Plymouth lost 29-26 at Sale.
Sedgley Park's loss means that they are relegated along with Leicester Lions but the other relegation spot has also yet to be decided and that too goes to the final game of the season.
Clifton beat Birmingham & Moseley 42-36and Leicester Lions lost 21-63 to Dings Crusaders whilst Rams slipped to a 19-36 defeat to Rosslyn Park.
The final round of games are next Saturday when Rotherham take on Sale at home and Blackheath entertain Clifton. At the bottom Birmingham & Moseley need points against Bishop's Stortford if they are to edge above Clifton.
The 2s wrapped up their Counties 2 Kent title with a 36-27 win over Maidstone at The Slade. Tries from Charles Jaques, Jamie Tutt and Luke Beaumont (2) plus extras from Beaumont and two unknown try scorers earned the victory and the title with a game to spare
The 3s will take their Kent B Rural title chase to the final Saturday after they came back from 31-24 down to beat Maidstone 2s 36-52. They play Leigh at home next Saturday
NEXT SATURDAY will be our end of Season Super Saturday with the 1s v Leicester Lions and 3s v Leigh
Tj Ladies opted for a Saturday fixture away at Old Gravesendians and they romped to a 7-51 victory to claim the league title with a game to spare.
Molly Irwin led the way with 5 tries, Fiona Beaumont grabbed a brace with Toni Vaughan and Remi Gentry also dotting down. The evergreen Rachel Marsh added the extras. The Ladies have one more game, next Sunday and away to Maidstone
Also on Saturday past and present Tjs took to the field in honour of ex-player Dan Gecse who very sadly passed away recently. He will be sorely missed.
And finally intrepid Tj walkers, John & Therese Jenner, Richard Pickles and John Ridley, all ably supported by Gary Smith in his motorhome, completed their 100km charity walk from TJs to Bishop's Stortford. A numb er of Tjs joined them on the final stage to cheer them over the finish line before the Bishop's Stortford massed lunchers gave then a standing ovation
Their efforts helped raise near £5K for The Brain Tumour Charity and My Name's Doddie5 MND charity and every step and blister was taken in honour of fellow Tj Stuart Russell-Thomas - you can still donate by going to GIVE AS YOU LIVE - DONATE website and click on the Donate to a Friend Page and searching for 100km hike for Stu

On Sunday the U14s won the plate competition at the Colchester Festival. It was a 15 a side tournament with 20 minute one way games and they beat Maldon 5-0 in a tightly contested final in front of a large crowd. Great day had by all and lots of tired but happy boys back at school today after the Easter holidays.
