A new N1 campaign and another new opponent, this time London Scottish, and away from home. A super first half performance and early second half try put Tjs in the box seat but London Scottish stayed in the fight to take the game to the wire.
Tjs started well with a Jack Walsh try after 18 minutes and a second from captain Lucas Brooke after half an hour. Connor Lloyd converted one and added a penalty to give TJs a 7-17 half time lead.
Jack Walsh dotted down again early in the second half after a dazzling rub by Tommy Mannix put him in but the territory and points started to lean in London Scottish's favour for a while as they forced their way over for three tries of their own but could only convert the one to make it 24-22 just after the hour mark.
Sam Morton-Smith, on for Lloyd at scrum half, snaffled the ball as London Scottish tried to play in midfield to scamper over and Steffan James converted. But London Scottish grabbed another try before James added a penalty to make it 31-32 with 10 minutes left.
Morton-Smith grabbed another try and Lloyd, back on but at fly half, converted to make it 31-39 but in the final minute London Scottish earned a losing bonus point and a final result of 38-39.
Maximum points for Tjs and they were hard earned with a few players literally on their last legs at the end. The result earns them joint top spot with the other two maximum pointers after Round 2 Sale FC and Plymouth.
Sale FC beat Birmingham & Moseley 66-35 and 10 tries to 5 whilst Plymouth won the south west derby with a 21-32 win over Camborne.
Rosslyn Park bounced back from a first round defeat in some style with a 30-61 win at Bishop's Stortford and Sheffield did the same in their Yorkshire derby with a 19-12 defeat of Leeds Tykes.
Dings and Rams shared the spoils in a 24 all draw and Cambridge, next up for TJs at Super Saturday next weekend, lost 31-38 to Bury St Edmunds.
Oundle, Guernsey and Old Albanians top National 2 East after they beat Leicester Lions 40-10, Jersey 19-36 and Barnes 32-26 respectively.
Canterbury won 15-38 on the road at Dorking whilst Henley Hawks edged out London Welsh 30-29 at home. Esher saw off Havant 48-12 and Colchester beat Westcombe Park 40-12
