Club Captain, Adrian Crouch, reflects on a TJ season to remember

What a season it was for so many reasons - not least a changing of the guard at Club Captain with Richard 'Dickie' Savage stepping back and across and Adrian 'Ady' Crouch stepping up into the role
So looking back at the season gone is important to assess what we've achieved and also to plan and look ahead for a new season

1st XV - the N2E squad finished a credible 5th in National 2 East despite a disappointing end with their last 3 games all ending in defeat. P26 W14 D1 L11.
Esher go up as Champions and Wimbledon & North Walsham are relegated. Oxford Harlequins, Colchester and Havant replace them and fixtures due in a few weeks time. Pre-season training for senior men will start in July.

2nd XV: the squad finished 3rd in Counties 3 Kent well clear of 4th place by 22 points. P18 W12 D1 L5. OEs (1st XV) were Champions and promoted having been unbeaten, with Old Alleynians 2s in second. The 2s remain in the same division for next season. We are hoping that some fun touch rugby games will be arranged shortly and ahead of pre-season training. The squad go on tour to St Omer on 21st June.

Vets/3rd XV: Played four friendly matches and we are hoping to arrange more regular fixtures next season.

U23s: Played three games and won them all. Kent derbies and local rivalries made these fun and sociable fixtures and we hope this will become a regular thing. Barnes, from N2E also, have expressed an interest in future games also

Ladies - the Ladies finished in 8th place in Women’s NC 1 South East (South). P18 W5 D1 L12. A difficult season with availability impacting at times but the squad played with energy and smiles all round. Plans already underway to help the squad develop and improve.

Academy - Colts A won the Kent league unbeaten and with bonus point wins in every game; Colts B were 3rd in Division 3 and U16s 3rd in the top division.
The Colts were knocked out in the semi-final in Kent Sevens. U16s were runners up in their respective Sevens. With the development of the Girls rugby at TJs the U18 & U16 Girls will be brought under the Academy umbrella also - exciting times for TJ Girls rugby.

Juniors - the U15s won Division 3 and lost in the plate final at the Sevens. This age group moves up to the Academy next season. The U14s had a tough start to their season but after a switch in levels they had a strong second half finish. The U14s had a tough league season but finished in some style with their tour to Cardiff over the bank holiday weekend.

Minis - no actual games where winning/losing is counted but a whole host of successes this season especially at festivals including the Kent festivals. Fun tours also with the Leicester Tigers festival at Butlins a stand out.

Girls: U16s (aka Weald Warriors) lost in the semi-final of Kent Cup, the U14s won the Kent Waterfall as did the U12s. Tour/festival to Worthing over bank holiday weekend was enjoyed by all. We will be looking to build on recent successes next season

Another season with so many highs and and of course lows. Everyone who played, coached, supported and more deserve a pat on the back for their combined efforts

With so much to enjoy it's important to remind everyone that respect and discipline is a very basic tenet of all that's good about rugby and sport in general. Updated code of conduct posters have been put up around the Club and in the entrance hall. All members, players, supporters, coaches and parents have been reminded about the standard of behaviour required.

Getting it 'right' both on and off the field is so important if we are all to enjoy our TJ rugby. And we all need to ensure that's exactly the mind set when the new season starts later in the year
