The Slade was full of sunshine, smiles and celebrations as TJs eased to a convincing 69-19 victory over Oxford Harlequins on Saturday. A total of 11 tries and 7 conversions sealed the result and yet another maximum 5 points haul to claim the title with a game to spare
Oxford led 5-14 after 20 minutes after Joshua Tusler had opened for TJs.
Tries from Curtis Barnes, Tusler again and Duncan Tout plus 3 conversions from Sam Evans earned the try bonus point and a 26-14 half time lead.
Second half tries from Charlie Self, Vince Everritt, Tom Kendrick plus two more from Lloyd and another from Tout and Tusler sealed the deal and TJs celebrated.
Ironically second placed Dorking lost 42-35 at Canterbury and third placed Barnes lost 19-21 to Henley to leave TJs 11 points clear at the top with a game to go. That game is away at Dorking on 26th April
Club President Bill Little signed off with his last home league lunch with a packed clubhouse and he led the way on the dance floor as always
Club Chairman Darren Grasby was delighted with the result and promotion to National 1 as he told us "Nat 1 is where we belong. We had a plan to get back there in 5 years and we've done it sooner than that. Everyone has worked hard at the Club to make it a possibility and with the 2s and Academy also winning their leagues it's been a season of success."
TJs were promoted to Nat 1 for the 2021-22 season after post-covid rejigged leagues. But this promotion was on merit with TJs winning 22 out of 25 games to date and rattling up 111 so far
