Close But Not Quite Enough

Close But Not Quite Enough

Tjs picked up another try bonus point on Saturday but couldn't quite grab the win against a strong Sale FC squad.

Tjs and Sale served up a 12 try thriller on Saturday with Curtis Barnes (3) and Tom Kendrick (2) doing the damage for Tjs in a 33-41 reverse in their National 1 Round 22 encounter.
Sale came back from being 19-0 down in the first half to trail 19-17 at the break. Although Barnes added his third to extend the TJ lead in the second half we couldn't hang on to it and slipped to another close defeat.
Tjs have lost 12 rounds this season but amassed 15 try bonus points and 6 losing bonus points in their 22 matches. That effort leaves them 8th in the table and 11 points clear of their next opponents Leeds Tykes.
The bottom half of the table is hotting up as we head into the final 4 rounds. Leicester Lions are bottom on 22 points and Tjs face them on the final day of the season at The Slade. The Lions went down 35-59 at home to Bishop's Stortford on Saturday and the result enables BS to climb above Tjs to 7th.
Clifton lie in 13th spot on 41 points after they pushed Rosslyn Park all the way in a 43-40 loss but those 2 points narrowed the gap with Sedgley Park (43 points) who earned a losing bonus point in their 22-20 defeat at Birmingham & Moseley
That win eased B&M into 10th spot on 46 points and above Dings Crusaders (44) who beat Leeds Tykes 62-31. Just 7 points between 9th and 13th spot in the division and all to play for.
At the top Blackheath continue to upset the leaders as they added Rotherham to their spoils in a 22-15 victory. They beat second placed Plymouth as well recently but Albion bounced back with a 60-26 win over Rams. Rotherham take on Plymouth this Saturday in what could be a title decider although still games and points at stake with Blackheath just 5 points back from Rotherham at the top
Elsewhere there were no games in the re-branded Champ but National 2 saw plenty of action with N2E leaders Old Albanians losing out 41-34 at Esher a result that allowed Bury Ste Edmunds to draw level on points after they beat Guernsey 69-14.
Esher are still in the relegation mix but with Sevenoaks losing 21-44 to Dorking and games against the top three still to come Oaks may not be able to avoid the drop. They play relegated Oxford Harlequins on the last Saturday but that may come too late unless they can pull a surprise out of the N2E bag and other results go their way.
Henley are also in that relegation mix but a 19-25 win at Westcombe Park keeps their hopes alive
In National 2 North Sheffield look like they should take the title with ease as they are 8 points clear with 2 games in hand. And Camborne are 10 points clear in National 2 West so they too are nearly over the winning line
