Tjs Set For Sale FC

16th September 2021

TJs return to The Slade on Saturday to face Sale FC in Round 3 of their National 1 campaign. A draw with Bishop's Stortford and a loss to Rams in the opening two rounds will hopefully mean we can complete the set come 4.45pm on Saturday.

Sale FC lost 34-21 to Chinnor in Round 1 but secured their first win with a 15-7 victory at home last Saturday. They have been very consistent at this level for the past number of seasons finishing 11th each time with the exception of 2019-20 when they finished 12th.

TJs will hopefully be in a buayoant mood for the visit with Tommy Nicoll (pictured) finally reaching his 100th cap, if selected of course. Tommy would have passed that milestone a couple of years ago but for injury and then the pandemic but hopefully on Saturday we can celebrate the achievement with him.

Add to that we have the ever-young Hugo Watson reaching 150 caps as well in the same game, again if selected. A remarkable achievement of longevity for both players. A second player should reach 150 caps shortly too but we will announce that one nearer the time.

Tommy's TJ journey started, we believe, in 2015/16 when he scored on debut against Chichester in the opening N3L&SE game which we won 19-33. We finished as runners up to LIWG that season before bing promoted the following season as champions.

We say believe as records may not be perfect but we will doublecheck with Dad Andy on Saturday as both He and Tommy will know for certain!

Tommy partnered Jon McMahon that day, and JMac - a legend in his own TJ rugby lifetime as well, very kindly shared the following tribute with us ahead of hopefully Tommy's 100th cap.

"With Tommy, although he is shockingly young despite looking 45 since he joined, he is somebody who has always given whatever the team has needed from playing back row to starting at 9 in a crisis. He is somebody you always want with you in the tough games. He always wants it [a full on game even] on a wet Saturday at The Slade."
