National 1 Squad picks and more

29th July 2021

We continue to plan and look forward to a 'new' rugby season and whilst we watch and hope re the Lions claiming victory again this Saturday we also look forward to TJs first ever foray into Level 3 and National 1 rugby

Club opens at 4pm this Saturday (31st July) for a 5pm KO with South Africa v Lions

On the wider TJ rugby front we are delighted to be able to share a list of players lined up for our N1 campaign for 2021-22. Many of the 'last' season's squad remain with some notable additions.

We will be highlighting some of the new names and more over the coming weeks as the squad continue to train and prepare not only for their N1 rugby journey but also pre-season warm ups.

Toby Freeman though deserves an early mention, mainly because he's a lot bigger than most and he's joined as a new player coach.  Toby told us "Personally loving it-top lads with a great group of coaches to bounce ideas off as well. First time I’ve had a player coach role so getting the balance right is a learning process but enjoying it so far. Looking forward to getting a few beers in soon and getting to know the group a little better before the long season kicks in!"

Head Coach Danks is also in buoyant mood - "I’m very happy with the way the new coaching staff have settled in. We have an outstanding Attack, Defence and Forward  input from the group. Our new and old players have got back to work with gusto. A couple of last year’s Academy boys are stepping up and improving with every session."

And the last word, for now, goes to past TJ Captain and a player who has been with us on much of the TJ journey to N1, Mike 'Sully' O'Sullivan who seems to look younger and fitter (from distance) every season. Sully enthused "You can feel the enthusiasm of the boys to be back as a group and playing. Some real clarity on how we want to play and clear buy in from everyone to work towards it"

Our pre-season games have been reduced to two as Old Albanians have had to pull out of their trip to us on the 7th August. But plans remain firm for trips to Henley Hawks (14th) and Canterbury (21st) - watch out for more details

And our N1 season is due to start on Saturday 4th September at The Slade when Bishops Stortford are the visitors.
