Chairman's March Message

24th March 2021

Dear Members

After a year like no other there is finally some light at the end of the tunnel. Assuming the government holds to the current roadmap we intend to resume rugby activities at the Club from March 30th. All of these activities will be within Government and RFU guidelines

1st XV squad and senior players are invited to join club sessions on Tuesday evenings, these sessions will commence March 30th and will be run by Dank’s and the coaching team down at Vizards. Our intent is to run these until the end of May. We have decided not to hold friendly games this season. The women’s team will commence training on Tuesday March 30th as well.

Our Academy section will also commence training on March 31st again at Vizards, the coaching team will send finer details.

The Junior section will commence training Tuesday March 30th, the section will resume regular mid-week training at Vizards and return to the Club for training on Sunday April 4th. The Mini section will commence training at the Club also on April 4th, these sessions will be staggered as they were in December. For both section’s coaches will communicate the finer details. I am pleased to announce the council have kindly granted us a pitch extension and we will run sessions all the way through to the end of May.

I am also pleased to say the clubhouse will be open for Tea / Coffee and a BBQ takeaway service. We all look forward to seeing you down at the Club on Easter Sunday. Again clear government guidelines will be adhered to.

Throughout the lockdown the committee has worked hard to minimize overheads and keep the operating costs to the lowest level possible. This has allowed us to retain a reasonable cash balance for the club however getting the Club up and running again over the coming months is critical and we hope all of you can show that extra support through subscriptions, spending money on food and drink when you can and supporting club events that we intend to organise once the further lifting of restrictions becomes clearer.

Our current plan will see the Club being fully functional again for a normal rugby experience for the start of season 2021/2022. All age grade rugby, senior ladies and male players will be able to start training and playing full fixtures again, hopefully without restrictions. We also hope to welcome you all down to The Slade to watch our very own 1st XV make history by playing in Level 3 of the RFU pyramid. National 1 will bring an extremely high level of rugby for you all to enjoy on a Saturday afternoon.

Lots to look forward to and I very much look forward to seeing you all soon.
