TJ Juniors Eye Return to Training

21st July 2020

I am at last pleased to share details of the Junior section moving back to rugby in the next few weeks. I am fully aware we are all really keen to get the boys back ASAP. The Seniors went back at the start of this month and the Academy last week.

We have been in continual communication with Kent and the RFU and now feel as a Club confident to move down to the next tier into the Juniors. We have done the necessary risk assessments and have had the opportunity to watch and learn for the older groups.

So with all the above in mind we have asked the Academy coaches under Gareth Withers to run our  first few sessions back in preparation and ahead of solo sessions planned for early September.

We anticipate la large amount of interest so we will initially run the U12s and U13s as one group and the U14s and U15s as another. Whilst Gareth and colleagues will lead the way we will be relying heavily on the age group coaches to watch and get involved as well

The current plan to take us through to Sunday 6th September is:

  • U12s/U13s  - Tuesday 4th August 6-7pm at Vizards and every Tuesday
  • U14s/U15s - Thursday 6th August 6-7 pm at Vizards and every Thursday

Gareth will give us a plan and direction well before the above dates and will help us run the sessions. I anticipate we will have about 70 per evening so potentially 12-14 bubbles.

As you will appreciate there is a lot to consider and organise and we are keen to get it right. We are a community Club and owe it to our members to start in a co-ordinated/safe and repeatable way. In reality pre-season does not usually start until mid August and I very much doubt we will be playing fixtures. the RFU's road map Stage F until Oct/Nov at the earliest

Academy guidance for all juniors  - we will send out further details nearer the time to all parents and players along similar lines

The RFU in consultation with the government is currently at Stage B of its phased return the play. This means that training can only take place in limited group numbers with regular cleaning of equipment.

  • We ask that players who wish to attend bring their own water bottle (as there will be none available) and their own hand sanitiser. Whilst it would be great to see as many people as possible we completely understand if anyone would rather not attend at this stage.
  • Sessions will be a mixture of skills and technical with lots of movement and activity thrown in to help build conditioning after the long lockdown period
  • Upon arrival, players will be placed in a small group with whom they will work for the duration of that session. They will rotate round activities some of which will be slightly different from usual but still extremely useful.
  • We will be asking the players to avoid gathering in groups and chatting so please reinforce this with your boys. Similarly, upon finishing each session it is important that the players and parents depart promptly please.
