TJs Win Again to Stay Top....Just

5th January 2020

N2S League leaders TJs headed south west to Bristol for Round 17 and their first game of 2020 after the seasonal break. A resolute home side kept TJs at bay for long periods and a try bonus point eluded TJs as they ran out 10-21 winners.

Playing up the slope in the first half and with the bottom quarter of the pitch very heavy going TJs did well to play much of the game in the Old Reds' half. Chances were few and far between for both sides and half time ended with Reds in front 3-0.

TJs started the second half brightly and Finlay Coxon-Green shot over for two quick tries which Will Robinson converted to put TJs in front 3-14. Expectations were now high that TJs would push on and secure at least fopur tries and a comfortable win.

However that is not how it played out as Reds thwarted TJs at every turn. Much opf the play was in the Reds' half but the heavy going made it difficult for TJs to capitalise on a dominant scrum and lineout.

In fact Reds scored next with a try to close to 10-14 but Rory McHugh (pictured) crashed over for a try from a 5m liuneout to make it 10-21 as Will Robinson converted again.

TJs had one further chance when Finlay cut through but the close interplay that followed saw the ball fall into Reds' hands and they escaped upfield in search of a losing bonus point. But to no avail and the final score was 10-21.

That win keeps TJs top of the table but only by a point from Henley Hawks who despite only beating bottom club Bournemouth 20-26 they did secure maximum points. Bournemouth are next up for TJs at The Slade next Saturday, providing the pitches are playable, with a 2.30pm KO scheduled.
