NEW Season and some new faces at TJs

2nd August 2019

August has arrived and with it comes the lead in to a new N2S season for TJs. Pre-season games are scheduled for Canterbury (N1) on 17th Aug, Sidcup (L&SE Prem)  at Vizards on 23rd Aug under lights and 31st Aug at T Wells (L&SE Prem)

Ahead of the new season Head Coach Pete Dankert has been updating us on TJ’s squad

"We’ve done incredibly well to keep the bulk of last season’s exciting and successful squad together whilst also adding to it.

We’ve lost Matas Jurevicius back to London Scottish where he had come from on loan but welcome back Rory McHugh from the injury that ruled him out for much of last season. Rory will team up with Dave Irvine and Mark Davey again but we’ve also recruited Jack Nay who can play both second row and back row as required.

Jack is another ex TJ junior who is returning after spells with Saracens at both Academy and Senior level and he represented England in the U20s World Cup. He has also played for  Bedford.

Matas was a fantastic addition last season and after his recent trip to Romania for the England Counties U20s it will be interesting to see if he can push on even further back at Scottish. We all wish him well and hope to see him again, although not as an opponent of course!

Another returning force is Reece Conlon at tight head who spent last season with National 1 outfit Old Elthamians. Reece will bring some extra ‘chirp’ and experience to the pack and he’ll be joined by Jimmy Green, a loose-head prop, who has joined from Canterbury after 185 N2 appearances for them in previous seasons.

Also joining the TJ pack is Tom Petty, a hooker by trade and another England Counties U20 player and who joins us from OEs

Out in the Backs we have another returnee and ex-TJ junior and 1st XV speedster, Finn Lewthwaite rejoining us. Many TJs will remember him from the TJ National Colts Cup winning squad as well. Finn has been playing at Leeds University and Le Bec (France) and can play Full Back or Wing

Noah Ferdinand also joins us on the Wing and he too has recent England Counties U20 experience. Noah has had stints with Harlequins Academy and Old Rutlishinians (Surrey)

And in the Centre we are joined by David Priest who was as John Fisher school, Nottingham University and Nottingham RFC in the Championship. David should be easy to spot as whilst his haircut adds a few inches his starting point is ‘big’ anyway!

So we've strengthened up front and added even more pace and strngth to possibly the best back line in N2S last season - we can't wait for the season to start.

Competition for places will be as strong as ever with the new squad and we can’t wait to see how they go pre-season and in National 2 South this season."

The new season also heralds new 1st XV kit with a new shirt sponsor (see pic) Ridge Crest Cleaning adding to the fantastic support they gave us last year.

We KO in the league on Saturday 7th September when N2S newbies Leicester Lions visit The Slade for the first time. Leicester Lions have moved across (or is it down?) to us from National 2 North so a first outing at The Slade should be a very exciting one.

Make sure you are part of the TJ welcoming party by booking your place at the opening League Lunch (and beyond)

Last season's league lunches grew in size and atmosphere throughout the season as the quality of rugby shone bright too. This season's lunch bookings are now in the hands of Feargal and Declan Ward with Mike Grasby as lunch promoter and they are advising TJs to book early to avoid disappointment
