Third Place for TJs

2nd February 2019

With OLd lbanians, Bormingham Bees and Henley all postponing due to icy weather conditions TJs headed to balmy Barnes for R21 in N2S knowing victory would see them climb to third.

A solid and largely disciplined display saw TJs score four tries in a 17-29 bonus point win to climb to third level on points with Taunton Titans.

Toby May opened the try scoring after a cross kick from Will Robinson found Hugo Watson who offloaded in the tackle for Toby to crash over. Barnes levelled with a try of their own but Hugo Watson turned scorer as he powered over for TJ's second with Robinson converting and TJs went in 5-12 in front.

The second half had TJs down the slope and with the icy breeze largely at their backs. A catch and drive in the right corner saw TJs score a team try which Robinson converted to give TJs a 5-19 lead. Barnes managed a converted try to close to 12-19 but a Will Robinson penalty and a Finlay Coxon-Smith converted try eased TJs to a final score of 17-29 and maximum points

Elsewhere the Rams maintained their 16 point lead with a 8-59 win at Guernsey and Rams are TJ's next opponents on Saturday 9th Feb KO 2.30pm at The Slade.

Canterbury remain second after Redruth made the 330 mile trip to end up on the receiving end of a 46-14 defeat. London Irish WG kept their hopes of staying up alive with a 22-19 win over Worthing.

In National 1 a 26-69 vicory for Old Elthamians took them top as both Ampthill and Rosslyn Park did not play. Blackheath lost ground as they slipped 22-27 loss at home to Cambridge.
