Kent Derby Low and High

8th September 2018

TJs stumbled against Canterbury early doors in last season's N2S campaign before rallying at Christmas to take the spoils. Unfortunately Round 2 ended in similar fashion at Merton Lane as Canterbury controlled much of the game to win 29-20.

TJs had a sniff midway through the first half as Canterbury lost their second row to the bin for handbags and a punch. And then lost their influential No 6 with injury. TJs rallied through a Will Colderick try under the sticks to get them back to 24-20 but they could not get in front and Canterbury added a final try as the coup de grace on a stop start affair with very few pockets of exciting rugby from either side.

TJs played with the slope and stiff wind first half but were soon in arrears. Although they crossed the line late on with a try by Hugo Watson and a conversion plus penalty from Will Robinson they went in 17-10 behind.

Robinson's boot kept them in the hunt but Canterbury had too much home nous and power for TJs to overcome in a game where they lacked a bit of spark. Hopefully that will come as the squad gels and works out who is doing what and when but each week becomes a bigger game, and LIWG visit Te Slade next Saturday for a 3pm KO.

Up the road at 7Oaks the 2s kicked off their Invicta 1 campaign with a 15-22 win. It was nip and tuck all the way and it was only the last play of the game that sealed the win and cost Oaks a draw. More details to come.
