Dartfordians and OAs Prove Stern Tests

2nd October 2017

The U14s had their 1st fixture of the season away against a very strong and welcoming Dartfordians squad. TJs took a squad of 19 plus Al, Ben and Farley who came along to support whilst carrying injuries.

We narrowly lost the first half 5-12 but comfortably won the second 24-7 after Darts played the rest of their larger squad.

A good start with much to work on but very encouraging with a stand out performance by Thomas Burles. Well done boys!!

Many thanks to Tom Simmonds, the coaches, supporting parents and Michael who refereed brilliantly. Tim Harrington Coach

Back at The Slade the U13s hosted two teams from Dartfordians. There was a drizzle in the air but the temperature was mild and the boys were keen to get stuck into their first fixture of the season.

In the first game it remained fairly tight for the first 10-15 minutes, with TJs scoring just one try to nil, but before half time we extended the lead by a further 3 scores.

In the second half TJs continued to show their dominance running in a few further tries to nil, winning comfortably in the end.  The second game saw a similar story; TJs dominating in the pack and the backs scoring some nice tries out wide, again holding the opposition to nil.  A good start to a long season. The U15s took on Old Alleynians at home on Sunday in a friendly which ended in victory for TJs. The game though took second place after a very unfortunate injury to Harvey Thatcher and we all wish him a speedy and full recovery

And the U12s hosted Dartfordians in their first competitive fixture of the season.

They played a series of matches with different and progressive rules to make the most of the opportunity to develop the players some of whom were new to the game or had only recently returned to the fray.

The first matches were warm up touch matches and points were scored for successful "gates" and passes. Darts quickly understood the best way to score points and won the 3 game series 311 to 386.
The next games pitted two self selected teams in off-load touch with points for tries scored and 3x passes in the same direction. It took TJs a while to get going forward but when they did they were able to score some very good tries whilst Darts managed to score a fair number of passing points.
Moving onto the contact games the team had to dig deep to bond before we played a 7 minute small sided game of U10 rugby. It was great to see the progress players had made in the physicality of the tackle and especially the ruck from the previous week. It was also good to see some new players committing to tackles and knocking the opposition back.

The final game was of U12 rules and the TJs showed their superior understanding of the game with good tactical decision and although they lost on tries 2 - 3 the clicker scores had them ahead of the stronger Darts for much of the game. Final "clicked" score 24-38.

There were some tremendous efforts and improvements throughout the day with special mentions to man of the match Will Davey. With other excellent efforts by Adam, Thatcher, Tipler, Marshall, Wayne, Sharpe and new team member Amen who really put himself out there setting a standard of effort for others to follow.
