Cup Double for TJs

1st May 2017

Sunday 30th April was another landmark day for TJs as the Academy and 1st XV looked to crown a great season with Cup glory. The 1st XV were back in the Kent Cup Final having won it in 2014-15 whilst the U17s were hunting down TJ's second National Cup in three seasons.

AND they both did it in some style with the 1st XV beating Sidcup 62-3 whilst the U17s saw off Lymm 38-17 in a thrilling final at Sixways, the home of Worcester Warriors.

The 1st XV were in relaxed mood before the game against Sidcup and played against the slope and strong breeze for the first half. Quality running and passing plus an extra cutting edge from a successful N3 season proved the difference as TJs scored three first half tries and added seven more down the hill with some panache.

Sidcup were not as bad as the scoreline suggests and they will do ok in N3 next season having won London  1S convincingly this time. TJs of course go up to N2S so a league and cup double was a fitting end to a great season where they have tasted defeat only once

At Sixways the U17s took an early lead but Lymm recovered to 17-12 at the break. TJs stretched things to 24-17 before having to weather a Lymm onslaught, which they did before closing the game out impressively at 38-17.

A second National Cup for the Academy is a quite outstanding achievement and testament to the hard work and effort put in by the players and coaches. The coaching must be pretty special and deserves recognition - well done everyone involved. Just need to try and keep the cup fixtures apart from now on!
